β¦ Synopsis
An electronic absorption band of Fe*+ in the distorted, six-coordinate M(2) site of the common mineraf orthopyroxene, (Mg, Fe)SiOs, is rdentified at 2350 cm-' . lT& band is attributed to the Al -+ Bs transition within the split 'T,S st3tc of Fe" in C,, symmetry.
Electronic absorption bands can be expected to ' WAVELENGTH (NM) Wk%'ENUMBEP krv~-')
