✦ Synopsis
The $-hydroxybenzoic acid and its methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl and benzyl esters are separated on thin layers of silanized silica gel using borate buffer (pH II) as mobile phase, adding a given volume of organic solvent as required. The separation of the various compounds is complete and an accurate quantitative determination of the #-hydroxybenzoic acid and its esters is possible using a simple technique of elution and spectrophotometric determination.
