✦ Synopsis
Bioassay-guided I-IPLC analysis of the seeds of Paeonia suffruticosa has afforded three novel resvemtroi trimers (suffruticosol A, s~ticosol B and suffruticosol C), together with cis-resveratrol and paooniflorin. The structures of these new compounds have been elucidated mainly by comprehensive ID-and 2D-NMR experiments. Resveratrel and its oligomers are active as ecdystereid antagonists (EDso values = 10 to 50 p.M vs. 5 x 10SM 20-hydroxyecdysone) in the Drosophila melanogaster Bn bioassay. The activities of other "pseudo-oestrogens" in this bioassay have also been assessed.
