β¦ Synopsis
Due to their high specific properties fibre reinforced composites are the fastest growing class of structural materials. Already in use for more than three decades, their application currently moves towards primary structures not only in the aircraft industry but also in general engineering and the fast growing wind energy sector. Although being known for their advantageous resistance against structural fatigue the knowledge of the fatigue characteristics of these materials needs to be extended to exploit their full potential.
