โฆ Synopsis
At the Fifth International Cryogenics Engineering Conference in Kyoto in May last year many significant developments in cryogenic engineering were reported.
The complete proceedings of the conference have recently been published but we felt many of the invited papers presented in Kyoto merited further publication. Accordingly this issue contains the review papers on topics which aroused the greatest interest and controversy, such as cryocables, cryogenic generators, superconducting magnetic energy storage and cryogenics and the energy crisis. The reports on the progress of superconducting levitated train programmes from various countries have deliberately been omitted. A review of the latest developments from the most advanced of these programmes will appear in 'CRYOGENICS' later this year. The entire conference proceedings, containing all the papers plus a summary of the discussion, is now available from IPC Science & Technology Press. This should prove a valuable source of reference on the latest developments in all areas of cryogenic engineering. Copies can be obtained by writing to the editorial offices of 'Cryogenics'.
