✦ Synopsis

We investigated the magnetization M hysteresis loops of micron-thick, c-axis-oriented YBCO ®lms in magnetic ®elds applied nearly parallel to the ®lm surface, h 6 7 °, where h is an angle between magnetic ®eld and the ®lm surface. It is expected from the ®lm geometry with a large aspect ratio (width/thickness) that M is dominated by the perpendicular magnetization (M c ) due to the shielding current ¯owing in the ab plane. However, we have ®rst demonstrated that there is considerable contribution from the magnetization along the ab plane (M ab ) when a medium ®eld (%0.1 T) is applied very close to the ®lm surface (h 6 0:4±2:0 °, depending on temperature). We investigated the temperature and ®eld dependence of hysteretic magnetization to outline the behavior of the hysteresis loss in an inclined ®eld in practically interesting conditions.
