โฆ Synopsis
The functional relation between the hypophysis and the glomerular zone of the adrenal cortex is not fully clarified. Although this zone is generally thought not to atrophy after hypopliysectomy, there is no agreement whether o r not the zone responds to hypophyseal stimulation. Since aldosterone is probably secreted by the glomerular zone (Giroud et al., '56 ; Hartroft and Eisenstein, '57), the relationship between the pituitary gland and this zone takes on added importance. The experiments reported here evolved from the observation of a pronounced hypertrophy in glomerular nucleoli and nuclei after enucleation of the adrenal, which was dependent, in part, upon the presence of the hypophysis.
