✦ Synopsis

The hyphal branching systems at the periphery of a fungal colony growing on cleared V-8 juice agar medium were analyzed quantitatively. A comparative study of Phvto•hthora cactorum, cinnamomi, P. megasperma, Pythium aphanidermatum, Saprolegnja ferax, Mucor hiemalis and Rhizopus homothallicus indicated that the characteristics of a hyphal branching system might be useful in taxa delineation.
