Hypervalent iodine oxidation of o-aminochalcones using C6HsI(OAc)2-KOH/MeOH leads to a novel and useful route for the synthesis of 3-(l~-styryl)-2,1-benzisoxazoles. A plausible mechanism for this novel rearrangement is proposed.
