✦ Synopsis

These complications have been described by Shepherd (1958).

Recently we have learnt that another male, in Generation 11, died of bleeding from the bowel at the age of 54, having refused operation. It is presumed he had polyposis and possibly cancer. One of his sons has had a colectomy for familial polyposis, but none of these was malignant. Acknowledgements.-We wish to thank Professor P. E. s. Palmer who carried out the barium enemata on the four younger children. We are grateful to Dr. P. J. Barnard for histological reports, and to Dr. Marius Barnard, Surgical Registrar, Groote Schuur Hospital, who referred the elder girl and collected material for the family tree. He also investigated other members of the family. We are indebted to Dr. J. A. H. Campbell for the photomicrography, and Miss R. E. Malan of the staff of the Department of Surgery, University of Cape Town, for typing the manuscript.
