β¦ Synopsis
A that exceptionally high concentrations of nitrates occur in the ground water. State and US Federal regulations require that levels are maintained below 10 ppm and to meet the requirement, Warwick Township Municipal Authority built a new nitrate removal plant.
Consultants for the project originally specified non metallic centrifugal pumps but the duty was beyond centrifugal pump capability and sealless, glandless hose pumps with reinforced hose were selected instead. In service since the plant was started up in 1989, the Bredel pumps have required only occasional hose replacement -a simple operation capable of being handled by one person. No other component is in contact with the brine solution.
The pumps are driven by 5.5 kW, 34 rpm geared motors.
