An organic+inorganic hybrid vanadium oxide [V V 4 O 10 (phen) 2 ] has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray di4raction. Red-brown crystals crystallize in the triclinic system, space group P1 , a β«Ψβ¬ 9.782( 2), b β«Ψβ¬ 6.5124( 14), c β«Ψβ¬ 19.765(4) A > , β«Ψβ¬ 89.94(2)3, β«Ψβ¬ 100.66(2)3, β«Ψβ¬ 89.86(2)3, V β«Ψβ¬ 1237.4(4) A > 3 , Z β«Ψβ¬ 2, (MoK ) β«Ψβ¬ 0.71073 A > (R(F) β«Ψβ¬ 0.0302 for 4342 re6ections). Data were collected on a Siemens P4 four-circle di4ractometer at 293 K in the range of 2.10( (25.023 3 using the -scan technique. The title compound, a non-mixed-valence hybrid tetravanadate, exhibits an in5nite one-dimensional ladder-like chain with organonitrogen donors of phen ligands coordinated directly to the vanadium oxide framework, where the octahedral +VO 4 N 2 , and tetrahedral +VO 4 , building blocks are linked by corner-sharing oxygen atoms.
