) (phenZ1, 10 0 -phenanthroline) has been synthesized under the hydrothermal conditions. Its structure was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group PK1 with cell parameters of aZ15.943(2) A ˚, bZ17.744(2) A ˚, cZ21.420(3) A ˚, aZ82.955(2)8, bZ79.479(2)8, gZ65.052(2)8, VZ5394.3(12) A ˚3, ZZ2. It exhibits an unusual 2D supramolecular layer in which dimers of organic small molecules act as connectors.
