✦ Synopsis
Several methods of characterization have been used in an attempt
to elucidate the nature of the 0.301 nm phase obtained during the hydrothermal synthesis of xonotlite from ~-Ca2SiO 4 and SiO 2.
Due to its metastability the 0.301 nm pnase could not be separated from the reaction product although numerous syntheses from the same ~-Ca~SiO, starting materials have shown complete reproducibilit~ o~ the formation ¢f 0.301 nm phase.
Experimental data obtained indicate that the structure of 0.301 nm phase is basically that of scawtite but somewhat disordered, and probably with some replacement of CO 3 by OH ions.
