β¦ Synopsis
The assembled Pt catalyst was prepared using activated carbon as support to capture "unprotected" Pt nanoparticles obtained from the decomposition of Pt 2 (dba) 3 (dba = dibenzene acetone). Transmission electron microscopy showed that the size of the Pt nanoparticles depended on the decomposition pressure. The catalytic activity was evaluated by the liquid-phase hydrogenation of o-chloronitrobenzene. The Pt/C catalyst exhibited high conversion and selectivity. When the Pt nanoparticles were prepared at 2.0 MPa of hydrogen pressure and 30 o C, the average size of the Pt nanoparticles was 2.8 nm with 0.5% Pt loading. Under the hydrogenation conditions of 60 o C and 1.0 MPa hydrogen pressure, the dehalogenation rate was less than 1.67% while the TOF was 39.8 s 1 .
