✦ Synopsis

Hydrogenation trials with a selected soft brown coal from the GDR were carried out in 2OOml shaking autoclaves to determine, qualitatively and quantitatively, the influence of reaction conditions, pressure, temperature and time on various parameters of hydrogenation. An experimental design was selected mathematically to define the polynomials that describe the influence of reaction conditions on results of hydrogenation. An evaluation of the correlations was carried out on the basis of isoline charts, where hydrogenation parameters were described as a function of two reaction parameters with all the other conditions constant. The influence of temperature and time was found to be dominant. In contrast, the influence of the reaction pressure decreased steeply after a certain limit.
