I n mid-December the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, took delivery of the UK's first fuel cell buses, as part of the two-year Clean Urban Transport for Europe (CUTE) project. The London buses -painted the traditional bright red, adorned with project and company logos -will be operated by First on behalf of London Buses. From early January they will run on Route 25, between Ilford in Essex and Oxford Circus in central London.
CUTE involves eight other European cities, and is the largest project of its type anywhere in the world; this just leaves Porto in Portugal awaiting delivery of its buses. A joint venture between London Buses, DaimlerChrysler, BP,
