✦ Synopsis

The reactivity of tert-butoxy radicals with methyl substituted aromatic compounds is almost exclusively determined by the aromatic moiety and almost independent of the methyl group position. The hydrogen abstraction from the carbon (Y to the aromatic ring is hardly sensitive to the produced radical stabilization. This lack of dependence can be explained in terms of the large exothermicity of the process.
