✦ Synopsis

Four new research projects have been initiated to address new and more stringent, US federal standards for acceptable levels of arsenic in public drinking water, which will come into effect in the USA in 2005.

The new standards will change the acceptable level of arsenic in public groundwater supplies from 50 (mu)g/l to 10 (mu)g/l. The research, funded by the Midwest Technology Assistance Center for Small Public Water Systems, will focus on removing arsenic from drinking water in line with the revised guidelines.
