✦ Synopsis

The aB-crystallin gene (CRYA2) encodes the abundant lens protein aB-crystallin. A panel of human/ rodent hybrid cell lines, derived from five different parental combinations, was characterized with respect to human chromosomal content and the presence of wellestablished human chromosome-specific markers. This panel was screened for the presence of CRYA2, using the third exon of the hamster aB-crystallin gene as a probe. The patterns of segregation of CRYA2 with individual human chromosomes show the highest degree of concordance between CRYA2 and chromosome 11. Using cell hybrids containing translocated and/or partially deleted human chromosomes, the CRYA2 gene was localized to llq12-11q23.

The human NK-2 receptor gene has been mapped to chromosome 10 using the polymerase chain reaction to amplify specifically the human NK-2 receptor sequence in hamster/human hybrid DNA and also in mouse/human monochromosome hybrids. The human histone H2A.X gene is unusual in that its transcripts are alternatively processed to yield two species, one a 0.6-kb replication-linked histone mRNA and the other a 1.6-kb polyadenylated mRNA. The H2A.X gene has been localized by fluorescence in situ hybridization to chromosome 11q23.2-q23
