## Abstract We report the molecular characterization of 38 new Kaposi's sarcoma‐associated herpesvirus (KSHV) strains from Russian patients with either classic (25 cases), epidemic/AIDS‐associated (7 cases), or posttransplant/immunosuppressed patients (6 cases), or Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). While a co

✦ Synopsis
Background:
Dna sequences of human herpesvirus-8 (hhv8) are found in lesions of kaposi's sarcoma (ks).
Objectives:
To verify the hypothesis of the sexual transmission of hhv8 infection.
Methods:
We used the immunoperoxidase assay to study the prevalence of serum antibodies to hhv8-related antigens in 27 consorts of patients with classical ks, and in a control group of 25 healthy women.
Results:
Forty-four per cent of the study group were positive, compared with 8% of the controls.
Conclusions:
The sexual route may be one of the possible ways of transmission of the hhv8 virus.

## Abstract Previous studies have reported a large variation in the incidence of classical Kaposi's sarcoma across different Districts of the province of Mantua (Northern Italy). To assess whether such differences might be explained by different anti‐HHV8 antibody prevalence, a serological study wa
Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8), the etiological agent of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), is transmitted mainly during childhood from seropositive family members, especially the mother, through saliva. The seroprevalence of HHV8 infection to a large extent reflects the distribution of KS, showing the same geograp
## Abstract We aimed to identify risk factors for Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) among HIV‐positive patients and behaviors associated with human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV‐8) infection, as well as to assess KS incidence and mortality rates longitudinally. To fulfill the first objective, a European case‐control stud
