This paper recommends five important steps for introducing automatic equipment: (1) plan the transition with advance notice to employees, (2) anticipate the widespread effects and identify which departments will influence the automation's success, (3) design the jobs created bythe change in accordance with human factors principles, (4) set up a placement and training program for employees whose jobs are replaced or changed, and (5) conduct a follow-up check to determine how well the new system has succeeded.
