✦ Synopsis

Research on adaptation and health among native arctic populations has a long history in the field of human biology. This session will showcase current human biological research at high latitudes, drawing on work from both North American and European investigators. The participants will bring together theories, methods and perspectives for studying issues ranging from social change and its impact on health to peopling of the Americas. They will also discuss the unique features, histories and experiences of the people with whom they work and how these, in turn, influence the local expression of larger global trends in health and human biology. In addition to the scientific significance of their research, the presenters will address how their projects are linked to community needs and desires, as expressed by community members. They will also alert us to the next set of issues that will require intensive research by human biologists in the future.
