โฆ Synopsis
Despite results that indicate that some of the Hovey items discriminate between brain-damaged and non-brain-damaged psychiatric patients, Upper and Seeman(2), Watson(3), and Black") all question the clinical utility of the scale. The questionable utility is a reflection of the number of false negatives and positives in each of the above studies. This is a report of an attempt to validate the 5-item scale for use with a particular population, adult inpatients in Larue D. Carter Hospital. The hospital serves as an intensive treatment center for adults with acute disorders rather than chronic, long-term disorders.
