✦ Synopsis

Exhaust emission standards for two-wheeled vehicles in India to be effective from April 2000 would require catalytic converters on most vehicles besides further improvements in engine technology. For these vehicles, gasoline quality is to be improved particularly with respect to S, Pb, and carburettor and intake system cleanliness. Antiknock characteristics is to be upgraded as higher engine compression ratios for better vehicle performance are being used. Two-stroke engine oils using synthetic base oil components with low ash and P are required for adequate durability of the catalytic converters and low smoke emissions.
