✦ Synopsis

Tom Ottenhoff's research focuses on unraveling the cellular and genetic mechanisms of human host immunity against mycobacterial pathogens, particularly Mycobacterium tuberculosis and M. leprae. Interactions between macrophages, dendritic cells, T-cell subsets and cytokines are a major area of interest in his laboratory, in addition to the study of the most relevant mycobacterial antigens for immunodiagnosis or immunoprophylaxis. The laboratory also does translational research, aiming to help design more effective intervention strategies against these major infectious diseases.
