To remedy the situation the N a t i o n a l R i v e r s A u t h o r i t y stepped in. Temporary measures were immediately taken and the water was p u m p e d to a water t r e a t m e n t plant. The water was treated with lime to reduce its pH value and render the heavy metals insoluble. A flocculant was then added which helped the metals settle out in a massive tailing dam. In this way 97% of metals are being removed before the clean water is discharged into the Carnon river.
New Grundfos SP210 high p e r f o r m a n c e s u b m e r s i b l e p u m p s were installed in April 1994. The p u m p s are able to resist the aggressive feed stream in which they are immersed.
