On 28 June 1983 Horst Bickel will be 65 years old, but this fact is not likely to worry him. As the most recent picture of him clearly shows, Bickel is still "in the thick of it", deeply involved in life, science and the clinic. It may seem premature at this point in time to pay tribute to his medical career and life work in Hamburg, Ztirich, Birmingham, London, Marburg and-since 1967-Heidelberg.
