โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Summary: The bis(imino)pyridyl vanadium(III) complex [VCl~3~{2,6โ€bis[(2,6โ€__i__Pr~2~C~6~H~3~)N๏ฃพC(Me)]~2~(C~5~H~3~N)}] activated with different aluminium cocatalysts (AlEt~2~Cl, Al~2~Et~3~Cl~3~, MAO) promotes chemoselective 1,4โ€polymerization of butadiene with activity values higher than classical vanadiumโ€chlorideโ€based catalysts. The polymer structure depends on the nature of the cocatalyst employed. The MAOโ€activated complex was also found to be active in ethyleneโ€butadiene copolymerization, producing copolymers with up to 45 molโ€% of transโ€1,4โ€butadiene. Crystalline polyethylene and transโ€1,4โ€poly(butadiene) segments were detected in these copolymers by DSC and ^13^C NMR spectroscopy.
