✦ Synopsis

DarwinοΏ½s World is still a sparsely-settled eden.
But things are beginning to change. Towns are being established, isolated people are joining with others. Nature is no longer the overwhelming challenge it was before.
Still, with increased growth comes problems. Cultures clash, despite the abundance of empty space.
Sabertoothed cats? Lions, huge bears, dire wolves? Dangerous, to be sureοΏ½
Despite centuries of progress, humans are still their own worst enemy.

From the Author

This book ends the trilogy featuring Matt as main character. Some have found the ending a surprise; I felt it was inherent in the premise of the original novel, some 350 000 words ago. I didn't know how this part of the story would turn out when I began writing about Darwin's World; instead, the logic of the story line drove me as I wrote.

There will be other stories on Darwin's World, just different. The beauty of this concept is that on a world without inhabitants I can explore many types of novel; there will be a 'western', but without real 'cowboys' (buffalo-boys?) or 'Indians'. The opposition will lack racial differences, complicating the situation. I've also considered a sea story, perhaps with pirates and even epic sea battles! I'll have to see where my imagination takes me.

As always, when I lack personal knowledge, I turn to research. For this reason, later novels will take considerably more time to write.

About the Author

Writing novels is my 'day job' in a sense, but I'm also a practicing scientist to an extent. I'm currently working on an improved experiment designed to show how the effects of global warming can be reduced. I expect to go public with that this summer and publish an essay describing the science behind the simple device, complete with photos, descriptions, and locations where a reader can examine the science for him/herself.

My other love is music. I'm an amateur but I perform at least weekly, most commonly for elderly people. I do this in Valencia County, New Mexico, where I've lived for the past fifteen years. I sing and play guitar most of the time, but I've also jammed with electric bass, banjo, and piano.

I'm a frequent commentator on Facebook with interests in world affairs, politics, economics, technology and science, and international relations. I also write occasionally on my two blogs, one devoted to writing and publishing, the other to nonfiction essays. The information is found in the About the Author section at the end of each book.
