Abstract
Biopsy samples from 96 cases of Hodgkin's disease have been subdivided into four groups based on the histological classification suggested at the Rye Conference on The Obstacles to the Control of Hodgkin's Disease held in Rye, New York, in 1965. The four groups, namely, lymphocytic predominance, nodular sclerosis, mixed cellularity, and lymphocytic depletion are shown to be associated with 5βyear survival rates of 58%, 45%, 18% and 8% respectively, as calculated by the life table method. The anatomical extent of the disease has also been shown to influence prognosis, 5βyear survival rates being 42%, 30%, 6% and 0% respectively for the four clinical stages described.
