✦ Synopsis

The histogram effects of digitizing continuous pulse height spectra are considered. The variation of the optimum peak-shape parameters with ADC bin width has been studied with reference to a Gaussian profile free from statistical fluctuations. Three fitting criteria have been tested, (1) the conventional approach in which no allowance for the channel profile is made, (2) an expansion correct to third order in bin width and (3) Liu's numerical integration scheme. The simplicity and utility of Liu's approach is reaffirmed.
