โฆ Synopsis
HISTIOCYTE SOCIETY MEETING ABSTRACTS
The Histiocyte Society was formed in 1985, and has proved to be a rallying point for laboratory and clinical scientists interested in the histiocyte and its disorders. Much of the focus of the Society has been on Langerhans' Cell Histiocytosis, but the 1989 meeting dealt largely with familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (FHL). Interest in FHL was manifest by the international representation of the numerous attendees. Several papers dealt with the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of FHL, its clinical evolution, and clinical management. Other expressions of the macrophage/histiocyte in health and disease were covered, too. The abstracts that follow reflect the content of the presentations, but not the lively discussions that ensued, where the enthusiasm of those attending was clearly evident. This may be at least in part because those interested in this cell and its lineage perhaps feel isolated. The meetings of the Histiocyte Society provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, and a bridge between the laboratory and clinic. Those interested in further information regarding the Society and the dates and venues of future meetings should contact Dr.
