other peak shapes were measured in which the height to base ratio varied from 0.5 to IO and the absolute areas from 5 YO 2<:0 sq.cm. There was little change in either the absolute accuracy or the random error. For peaks with very long tails the area under the tail can be more accurately measured by placing the rule parallel to the peak and measuring the area of the tail from where it meets the baseline to where it rises to I cm above the baseline, We would like to express our thanks to Messrs.
