✦ Synopsis

Although Hilbert created no new set-theoretic theorems, he had a profound effect on the development of set theory by his advocacy of its importance. This article explores Hilbert's interactions with set theory, as expressed in his published work and especially in his unpublished lecture courses.

## Abstract This is a study of the relative interpretability of the axiom of extensionality in the positive set theory. This work has to be considered in the line of works of R. O. Gandy, D. t If' the analysis is to be taken seriously, we can observe that there is one jog in the almost monotonic plot of activation energy as a function of temperature. At this jog, there is a shght upward jump in the plot which is also predicted by Hart.
