✦ Synopsis

Catalytic conversion of N20 to N2 with Cu-and Co-impregnated activated carbon catalysts ( M A C and Co/AC) was investigated. The relationship between N20 conversion and metal (Cu and Co) content was examined. The catalysed N20-carbon reaction was studied in a fKed-bed flow reactor at atmospheric pressure. Two modes of experiments were employed: (i) temperature-programmed reaction (TPR) in a N20/He mixture; and (ii) isothermal reaction at 350 "C to 380 "C. Both Cu and Co catalyse the N20-carbon reaction effectively, which is shown by the decrease in activation energy and the substantial shift of N20 reduction curves toward much lower temperatures. A 20wt?? metal loading has proved to be optimal for both Cu and Co, which can lead to 100% of N20 conversion at 400 "C for both cases. At lower temperatures, Co/AC is more active, whereas at higher temperatures CdAC is much more stable. The reaction mechanisms are discussed in this paper based on the TPR curves, the isothermal reactivity data and distribution of the products.

Composite adsorbents of carbon and alumina intercalated montmorillonite were prepared and characterized by adsorption of N 2 and O 2 at various temperatures. The effects of pyrolysis, temperature, heating rate, subsequent degassing, and doping of cations and anions were investigated. The adsorption
