Highly c-axis oriented epitaxial Ru(Eu 1.5 Ce 0.5 )Sr 2 Cu 2 O 10Àd (Ru-1222) thin films were grown on SrTiO 3 (0 0 1) substrates by a novel growth technique, flux-assisted reactive solid phase epitaxy. The films grew epitaxially as (1 0 0)Ru-1222//(1 0 0)SrTiO 3 with excellent crystallinity and ato

✦ Synopsis
A RuSr 2 (Eu 1:5 Ce 0:5 )Cu 2 O 10Àd (Ru-1222) sintered target was laser ablated into thin films on SrTiO 3 (0 0 1) substrates at temperatures between room temperature and 800 °C. Although the as-deposited films did not exhibit Ru-1222 phase, the films deposited at temperatures between 600 and 780 °C were successfully crystallized and exhibited highly c-axis oriented Ru-1222 phase by the subsequent thermal treatment under appropriate conditions. The films grown at 740 °C and annealed at 1060 °C in 1 atm oxygen flow for 1 h showed a weak ferromagnetic behavior below 130 K and the onset of superconducting transition at 32.4 K. The coexistence of ferromagnetism and superconductivity was observed at temperatures below 32.4 K.
