✦ Synopsis

The expressions for the second-order (SOE) and third-order (TOE) elastic constants for the high temperature superconductor La 2Γ€x Sr x CuO 4 (LSCO) have been derived from the finite deformation theory. The derived expressions have been used to the compute the values of the SOE and TOE constants for La 1.85 Sr 0.15 CuO 4 . The computed values of SOE constants for La 1.87 Sr 0.13 CuO 4 and La 1.86 Sr 0.14 CuO 4 are found to be in good agreement with the earlier reported data. The values of SOE and TOE constants for La 1.85 Sr 0.15 CuO 4 material are being presented for the first time.

Investigation on a high-To superconductor, Lal.ssSro.15CuO4, was performed in the wide range of Q E space by means of neutron scattering and synchrotron radiation. The structure as well as the phonon dynamics showed a clear evolution at To. We found a spontaneous strain and phonon softening, which p
