โœฆ Synopsis

By using picosecond transient absorption spectral measurement techniques, we have investigated photophysical properties of several monc+substituted diphenylacetylenes (DPA). The strongly temperature dependent Sz -+S, internal conversion which was reported for DPA previously was observed for methoxy-DPA, hydroxy-DPA, and chloro-DPA. In these compounds the S2 and S, states are fluorescent 'B1. and nonfluorescent 'As or ' B IU, respectively, while the S, state of cyano-DPA and CHXCOO-DPA should be fluorescent 'I&.. The probable mechanism of the .QS, internal conversion, where the promoting vibrational mode was excited in the Sz state, was proposed on the basis of the results that the former group has a similar activation energy of the internal

It has been found that fluorescence from an anthracene crystal can be modulated by an external magnetic field under strong excitation (2= 308 nm). Dependence on the magnetic field strength and its orientation with respect to the crystal axes have been measured. Magnetic field effects on the fluoresc
