โœฆ Synopsis

In the preflame reactions o] dilute mixtures o] n-heptane and oxygen in argon at

temperatures just above I O00ยฐK, the predominant [eature is cracking. The craching sequence is not rapidly chain branching and is not marhedly influenced by the oxygen present. The rate is proportional to the inert argon diluent. The ignition delays are lengthened by the addition o I a number o[ hydrocarbons, including increased heptane concentration. Ethane and acetylene are exceptions and do not inhibit the ignition. Hydrogen promotes ignition. The reaction, H-t-O,, >OH+O, is the lihely important chain branching step among the reactions leading to ignition.
