✦ Synopsis

The vapours over CsI(l), CdI,(l) and the ternary compound Cs,CdI&l) were studied by high-temperature infrared spectroscopy. The vapour over CsI(I) was found to consist of monomeric and dimeric molecules and the fundamental vibrational frequency of the monomer and two vibrational frequencies of the dimer were observed. The spectrum over CdI,(l) consisted of the two IR-active vibration bands of the CdI, molecule. The spectra of the vapour over Cd,CdI&l) showed successive release of CdIs(g1 and CsIfg), indicating that dissociation occurs. No evidence for a gaseous ternary Cs-Cd-1 gaseous species was found.

Single crystals of Cs 2 CuCl 4 and Cs 2 CoCl 4 have been investigated at high pressures by X-ray di4raction techniques, using a diamond anvil cell. Increasing the pressure to just below 40 kbar caused the crystallinity of Cs 2 CuCl 4 to deteriorate rapidly. This was accompanied by a color change fro
