✦ Synopsis

We report in this paper the observation of fluorescence from the G-level ( 'I1sn = 22350 cm-') of Dy3+: LaF3 using 4765 A (20981 cm-') excitation of an Ar* laser. This fluorescence of Dy3+, 30 far not reported in any lattice, is observed only for temperatures beyond 300 K. It is found to increase in intensity with temperature and follows the expected thermal popula&on of G from the F-level.
