✦ Synopsis


High-temperature or, equivalently, strong coupling expansions are established by applying heat-kernel techniques to the Green's functional of the Schrodinger picture of quantum field theory. The trace of the Green's functional is considered and a high-temperature expansion for the partition function is derived. It is shown that a simple, physically motivated resealing of parameters leads to well-defined expressions. A generalized Thomas-Fermi expansion for the density of states is finally obtained.
