High Tc superconductivity in Ca-doped Bi-2202

✦ Synopsis

Crystals have been grown from samples of nominal molar contents 2.0 6 Bi 6 2.5, 1.0 6 Sr 6 2.0, 0.0 6 Ca 6 1.0 and 1.0 6 Cu 6 2.0. Samples as grown and some of them after being oxygenated, were identified by X-ray powder diffraction. Magnetization measurements revealed superconducting transitions up to 90 K for Bi 2 Sr 2Àm Ca m Cu 2 O x samples with molar Ca contents as small as 0.10. The characterization of two not well known phases is also reported: orthorhombic Bi-2202 and tetragonal Bi-3302, with unit-cell parameters ( A) a ¼ 3:628ð1Þ, b ¼ 6:915ð9Þ, c ¼ 24:61ð3Þ; and a ¼ b ¼ 15:006ð4Þ, c ¼ 25:39ð1Þ respectively.
