✦ Synopsis

Dynamic indentation (DI) tests using spherical projectile have been carried out on solution treated and aged (STA) Ti-6Al-4V alloy at ambient conditions in the velocity range of 32-186 m/s. The DI behavior of the alloy, especially, dynamic hardness, lip height as a function of average strain and depth of the plasticzone underneath the indentation have been analyzed. Dynamic flow stress-strain curve representing high strain rate flow behavior was also evaluated using constraint factor (CF) determined under static indentation conditions.

A fast shear deformation with the effect of adiabatic coupling is studied in this paper for Ti-6Al-4V alloy by application of the finite element technique. The numerical study of impact shearing of a layer with a small imperfection in geometry has been completed for a wide range of impact velocities
