โœฆ Synopsis

1% report on the observation of the coherent and incoherent transients of collisionless molecular beams using single-modelaser spectroscopy. The technique offers a resolution of one part in lo*, and resolves the spectra on the time scale of nanosec-onds_ The method is demonstrated on-an effusive beam of iodine. Since the beam is collisionless the optical dephasing of the selectively excited (lo4 cm-') molecular packet can be directly related to the zero-pressure optical Tt obtained from the Stern-Volmer relationship of iodine gas in a bulb. Finally, the cross section for the radiationless and radiative deactivation are reported and related to the free-induction decay (FID) of the coherently excited molecular beam. 1 _ Introduction Molecules that are driven by an intense laser field undergo the well-known Rabi oscillations.

## Abstract Variations in the intrinsic __T__~1~ and __T__~2~ relaxation times have been implicated in numerous neurologic conditions. Unfortunately, the low resolution and long imaging time associated with conventional methods have prevented __T__~1~ and __T__~2~ mapping from becoming part of rout
