✦ Synopsis

The filled skutterudite compound CeOs 4 As 12 has been prepared by using high-pressure synthesis technique. The temperature dependence of electrical resistivity in this compound shows a semiconducting behavior, with a small activation energy DE/k B of 54 K. CeOs 4 As 12 exhibits a small, nearly temperature-independent magnetic susceptibility. The magnetic and transport properties of CeOs 4 As 12 are similar to a Kondo semiconductor CeRu 4 As 12 .
