✦ Synopsis
The intramolecular electron-transfer state of 9.9'-bianthryl was investigated in viscous solvents at high pressures. In the low-pressure region, there is a true equilibrium between the electron transfer and locally excited states, whereas the increase in the viscosity of the solvents becomes the dominant factor in the high-pressure region. In particular. a change in the kinetics was observed in i-butanol and in i-amyl alcohol as the pressure was increased to 10 kbar.
