β¦ Synopsis
Raman spectra of liquid and crystalline CHzBrCHzBr have been measured at hydrostatic pressures up fo 120 kbar and at 300 K in a gasketed diamond anvil cell. The pressure dependence of eight intramolecular and three intermolecular (lattice) modes is reported. All intramolecular vibrations show a change in their hish-pressure behavior at 63 kbar. In particular, the anomalies of the CzBr bending and the CBr stretching modes strongly indicate a pressure-induced phase transition at 63 kbar in crystalline CH2BrCH2Br. The observed three intermolecular vibrations under high pressure are compared with the previous results about the low-temperature solids CHzBrCHzBr and CH~CICH~CI at atmospheric pressure_
