โœฆ Synopsis

The Raman and ir. spectra of the carbonyl stretching mode in d-camphor crystals have been investigated as a function of temperature and pressure. Camphor has a complicated phase diagram and hence different regions of it reveal considerable differences in spectra. Several anomolous regions have been found where the vibrational frequency decreases as the temperature is lowered or the pressure increased. This is interpreted in terms of a lengthing of the C=O bond length.
